It was my intention to get a car older than I am, and it wins that by a 2 year margin. Manufactured in Canada and somehow making its way to San Diego after 137,000 miles, its origins are a mystery to me. All I know is that it has a clean title, and that Civic parts are ubiquitous so it’s an easy car to learn on and tinker with. So it’s perfect for me.
Surprisingly it didn’t come with a tachometer, which is pretty important on a manual transmission car. Obviously a trip to the junkyard was in order!
I made my way to the local salvage place and found this old 95 civic:
And lo and behold, an improved gauge cluster!
I got home and followed this Instructable, with very good results!

Overall, I’m very happy with the way it turned out. The only thing I might change is that the current dashboard lighting is pretty faded and might need some bulbs replaced.
Having a tachometer is a must when driving manual, and I’m happy I was able to add one without any tacky aftermarket parts.
